A historical action-epic, inspired by a true story, in the tradition of Braveheart and Gladiator.
Left for dead by his father’s killers, a Norse hero returns on a quest for vengeance that unites a nation and seals his place in the greatest battle of the Viking Age.
In the tradition of Braveheart and Gladiator, Twilight of the Kings is an action-epic following the rise of enigmatic 10th-century Norwegian hero, Olaf Tryggvason.
Sold into slavery as a boy after his father's murder by rivals, Norse hero Olaf Tryggvason leads a band of renegade Vikings on a vengeful quest to reclaim Norway—uniting his people against the last pagan kings in the ultimate battle of the Viking Age.
In 1000 A.D., a Viking crew searches the fog-choked wreckage of a sea battle for their missing king, Olaf Tryggvason. The story flashes back to young Olaf in fractured Norway, raised under his father’s fleeting dream of a united land—shattered when a Norse traitor, Jarl Haakon, and the Danish King he serves, Harald Bluetooth, slaughter his family and sell Olaf into slavery.
Branded and beaten, Olaf forges his pain into an iron will until a daring rescue sets him free. Years later, Olaf returns as a hardened warrior leading a band of outcast Vikings, pursuing the Danes and Norse traitors across the sea with abandon.
Olaf’s thirst for retribution against Haakon and Bluetooth is tempered by a vision of peace offered by his wife Geira and the home they hope to build. Yet, when his enemies slay her, every tether snaps and Olaf unleashes his vengeance without restraint.
As Bluetooth and his larger-than-life son Svein Forkbeard defend Daneland against a German invasion, Olaf joins their foes to assault the Danish fortress. Amid the chaos, Haakon betrays Bluetooth and kidnaps his daughter, Thyra. Devastated, Bluetooth makes an offer to Olaf: rescue Thyra, end Haakon, and reclaim Norway with Bluetooth’s support.
Olaf and Svein pursue Haakon to London, where Haakon fights dirty to survive. Olaf believes revenge is finally his but is nearly killed by shifting loyalties. After a miraculous escape, healing, and conversion to a new faith, Olaf’s focus shifts from vengeance to redemption. With Haakon’s power broken, a Norse army rallies around Olaf and he sails to Norway to reclaim his father’s crown.
Olaf begins reunifying the Norse, yet pagan chieftains loyal to Haakon fiercely oppose his rule, turning every step toward consolidation into a potential trap.
Meanwhile, emboldened by Haakon’s fall and Olaf’s rise, Svein seizes the Danish crown from his father, then unleashes the full Danish empire—and the last great pagan kings of the north—against Norway.
With Norway threatened by an armada from Denmark, Sweden, and beyond, Olaf attacks first but is lured into Danish waters and trapped against overwhelming forces.
Outnumbered a-hundred-to-one, yet unbowed, Olaf makes his stand from his ship, the Long Serpent, in the greatest battle of the Viking Age, and the saga comes full circle: a misty sea littered with shattered ships and a king who becomes a legend.
Olaf Tryggvason
A prince turned slave turned sea-warlord, Olaf is a man built by loss and driven by one clean idea: take back Norway from the men who shattered it. He’s charismatic, fearless, and lethal in battle—but what makes him dangerous is his conviction. He doesn’t just want revenge; he wants a united kingdom, and he’s willing to burn his old life to get it.
Tryggva Olafsson
A nobleman descended from Harald Fairhair’s line, Tryggva carries himself like a man who understands both legacy and fragility. He is not naïve about Norway’s fractures—he knows the jarls are divided, loyalties are thin, and power is shifting—but he still believes deeply that the land must be united under one true king.
Geira
Olaf’s chance at peace. She’s strong, direct, and sees the man beneath the legend—someone still capable of tenderness and of building a beautiful life together, if he can ever finish his quest for vengeance. Her love isn’t soft; it’s steady, and it raises the stakes because she represents the future Olaf could have… if his past will ever release him.
Jarl Haakon
Norway’s most formidable power broker: cunning, merciless, and always two moves ahead. Haakon rules through fear and division, crushing rivals before they can rise and punishing anyone who dares to hope for a true king. He understands Olaf better than anyone—because he helped create him.
Harald Bluetooth
The legendary king of Denmark, Bluetooth has conquered and subjected neighboring lands including Norway and parts of the Holy Roman Empire to forge the greatest northern kingdom of his era. Now, he fights to keep his northern empire from collapsing under a renewed Viking and German alliance assailing him from all sides.
Svien Forkbeard
Svein is larger-than-life, hilarious, boisterous, likable, reckless, ambitious, and impatient. He can grin, clasp arms, and turn enemies into allies when it suits him, but underneath is a dangerous man who believes power is taken, not given.
Elidius
A wandering mystic and quiet seer, Elidius moves through the story like a man who sees more than he says. He is not a warrior or a politician, but his presence carries weight—measured, introspective, and slightly apart from the brutality around him, burdened with the knowledge of foresight and prophecy.
Thyra
A royal daughter caught in the crossfire of kings—but she refuses to stay a pawn. She has more ambition than the men around her realize…and she pulls Olaf towards far bigger strategic stakes than he’d bargained for in a deadly game of kings that will either forever change his world or lead to an epic doom.
